What I’m Reading: May 2022

To be honest it’s been a bit rough reading as of late. I’ve found it easier to watch Nine Perfect Strangers (so different from the book!) on Hulu and Anatomy of a Scandal on Netflix than to commit my attention to a book. My mind is racing and my attention span is limited but I did manage to add a few additional and unanticipated reads last month.

I love Kate Quinn! Have you read her yet? Her books are masterpieces and I want Reese Witherspoon to snatch every last one of them up and make them into movies or limited series just as she did with Liane Moriarty’s books. If you haven’t read Quinn, The Rose Code, The Huntress and The Diamond Eye are all exceptional. But if you don’t feel like reading them, the woman who narrates her audio books — Saskia Maarleveld — is truly phenomenal! When I can’t seem to focus on an actual book, I turn to audio books. All 12+ hours of The Diamond Eye were riveting. Plus with the OverDrive app, you can download the audio books from the library straight to your phone. Easy as pie.

I had an unexpected visit last weekend from a dear friend and fellow book lover. Several years ago, we were introduced through a neighbor and bonded over our love of reading. Without fail, if she likes a book, I hate it and vice versa. It’s fabulous to discuss the pros and cons with someone who feels the opposite about a book that rocked your world. In the pandemic when I was extremely isolated, she would drop off bags of books on my front doorstep like a benevolent book fairy! Last weekend when Cleveland was experiencing sunshine and 80 degree weather, she showed up with Starbucks, a book shawl and Love & Saffron.

Get yourself a friend who knows you, cares about you AND brings coffee and books on a Saturday morning. Happy reading this month.
